Doc on Palestine wins Golden Eye in Cannes

Italy doc 'Samouni Road' directed by Stefano Savona has won the Golden Eye of 71st Festival de Cannes.

The flick shows Samouni family living in the rural outskirts of Gaza City. They are preparing to celebrate a wedding and that is the first party since the last war.

The young survivors of the war who have lost their parents, olive gardens and even their homes are now replanting trees and plow fields.

A more difficult task still lies with these young survivors to rebuild their own memory.

'Samouni Road' which is a fresher look on the Palestinian mass murder by the Zionist regime competed with 17 others at Directors' Fortnight section of the festival and succeeded to grab Golden Eye award (L'Œil d'or in French).

Launched in 2015, Golden Eye is a documentary film award which is given to the best documentary presented in one of the sections of Festival de Cannes.

Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des Realisateurs in French) is one of the sections of Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes International Festival is one of the world’s most publicized events which aims at drawing attention to and raise the profile of films in order to contribute towards the development of cinema, according to the festival’s official website.

The 71st edition of the festival took place on May 8-19, 2018 in France.
